DÉNIA, Spain — The Port de Dénia is experiencing one of its busiest summer periods in recent years, with marina managers reporting a record number of yacht arrivals and bookings for the July-August season.
According to port authority figures, the harbor’s 2,343 berths have been filled to approximately 98 per cent capacity, with vessels ranging from small motorboats to luxury yachts exceeding 40 metres in length. The majority of visitors come from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, and Scandinavia, with a growing number of domestic Spanish boats as well.
Dénia’s port is well positioned along the Mediterranean coast, offering sheltered berths, modern facilities, and direct access to the Montgó Massif Nature Park. The town’s fishing port — one of the largest on the Costa Blanca — is just steps away, allowing visitors to experience the famous daily fish market and fresh seafood restaurants within minutes of docking.
Recent infrastructure improvements at the port, including upgraded pontoon sections and new electricity-hook-up points for stationary vessels, have been credited with attracting larger yachts that previously bypassed the marina in favour of nearby ports in Jávea or Calpe.
The surge in maritime tourism is expected to generate significant revenue for Dénia’s economy this summer. Local businesses — including restaurants, supermarkets, and supply services — report strong booking levels. The town’s traditional industries, particularly its fishing fleet and canning factories, continue to operate alongside the growing tourism sector.
Dénia is known for its prawns, caught in the waters off the Cabo de la Nao headland, and its jamón ibérico production. Both industries provide year-round employment, while the summer season brings additional hospitality and service jobs.
Port officials say they are preparing for what could be another record-breaking August, particularly with several cultural and food events planned in the coming weeks. The town’s municipal calendar includes traditional festivals, music performances, and seafood-themed events that draw both residents and visitors alike.
This is a developing story. More updates are expected as the summer season progresses.
