DÉNIA, Spain — The Dénia City Council’s Sports Department has launched two subsidy programmes for 2026, introducing a brand-new funding line for local sports events alongside enhanced support for the city’s established sports clubs.
The new initiative allocates €60,000 specifically to support clubs and sports organisations that organise competitions, tournaments, mass-participation events and other notable sporting fixtures that help animate the city, promote sport and strengthen Dénia’s profile as a sporting and tourist destination.
According to Sports Councillor Valentín Alcalá, the new line responds to a long-standing need from local clubs.
”Organising a major sports event requires an extraordinary effort that goes well beyond a club’s routine activity,” Alcalá explained. ”That is why we wanted to differentiate these grants and give each project the support it deserves.”
Dénia is a city with sporting activity year-round, but it is also home to events that attract hundreds or thousands of participants, generate economic activity and position the city as a sporting reference point. The new funding line aims to help make these events possible, Alcalá said.
The new sports event grants are intended exclusively for occasional and special activities, while ordinary club activities continue to be covered under the annual sports programmes funding line.
The city is also maintaining its existing subsidy line for sports programmes of a continuing nature, now allocated €170,000. This funding supports the daily activities of Dénia’s sports clubs and organisations throughout the season, contributing to the financing of training, official competition participation, sports development, travel, technical staff, insurance and other operational costs.
”Our objective is to continue standing alongside clubs, which do essential work every day, while also promoting those events that put Dénia on the sporting map and generate positive returns for the whole city,” Alcalá concluded.
Applications for both subsidy programmes are open until October 5 and must be submitted electronically through the city’s electronic headquarters. The full regulatory bases are available at the official municipal website.
