Belgian Man, 59, Arrested for Involuntary Manslaughter After Killing Neighbor in Dénia Fistfight

DÉNIA, Spain – A 43-year-old man died on Wednesday evening after being punched by his neighbor during a heated argument in a seaside residential complex in Dénia. The alleged attacker, a 59-year-old Belgian national, called the police himself to report the incident.

The fatal confrontation occurred around 6:00 p.m. in the parking area of the Palovi urbanization, located on the front line of Les Deveses beach. According to police sources, the two men had been involved in a long-standing neighbor dispute that escalated into a violent argument and then a physical fight.

During the scuffle, the 59-year-old struck the victim with a punch, causing him to fall backward and hit his head on the ground. The victim lost consciousness and died from the head injury. Realizing the man was not responding, the aggressor checked his pulse, discovered he had none, and immediately called Spain’s National Police to alert them.

Emergency medical services arrived at the scene and confirmed the victim’s death. A judicial commission later removed the body for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The 59-year-old Belgian was arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter (homicidio por imprudencia). He has been taken to the Dénia police station and is expected to appear before a judge shortly.

The incident has caused shock among residents of the normally quiet coastal urbanization.
