Dana Adam: stay-at-home order lifted for most towns, still in force in Xàbia, Pego and Els Poblets

The Generalitat has lifted the stay-at-home order for most of the northern Alicante coast. It remains in force in Xàbia, Pego and Els Poblets. Here is the latest.

Information correct as of 18:20 on Monday 19 October 2026. This is a developing situation.

The Generalitat Valenciana has lifted the stay-at-home and travel restriction for most of the 145 towns that were covered by Monday morning’s order. Eight municipalities remain under confinement, three of them in the Marina Alta: Xàbia (Jávea), Pego and Els Poblets.

Dénia and Calp (Calpe) are among the towns where the regional confinement has been lifted. Town halls may still keep their own local measures in place.

Partial lift (Orde 12/2026)

At 15:34 CEST on Monday, 112 Comunitat Valenciana announced that confinement had ended for 137 municipalities. The DOGV later published Orde 12/2026, confirming the partial lift.

The eight towns that remain confined are: Bellreguard, Daimús, Miramar, Oliva, Piles (La Safor), and Xàbia, Pego and Els Poblets (Marina Alta).

“In these municipalities, respect the confinement. In the rest of the areas, stay cautious, avoid unnecessary travel and follow the instructions of the emergency services,” the Generalitat said (translated from Valencian).

What happened this morning

On Monday morning the Generalitat ordered people in towns along the northern Alicante coast and the southern Valencia coast to stay at home after torrential rain from Dana Adam. Orde 11/2026 covered 145 localities. The map published by 112 at 11:11 labelled Dénia, Xàbia, Calp and Pego among others.

On Saturday 17 October AEMET issued a red warning for torrential rain on the northern Alicante and southern Valencia coasts. On Sunday evening the Generalitat activated level 1 of its flood plan for the Marina Alta. At 07:00 on Monday it raised this to level 2 for the Marina Alta and La Safor, and shortly before 09:00 to the whole southern Valencia and northern Alicante coast.

Record rainfall

Stations of the AVAMET network recorded more than 600 l/m² in 36 hours between Pego and Forna, according to AEMET. “It is the most significant rainfall episode in the area since November 1987,” AEMET said (translated from Spanish). By 09:13 on Monday AEMET reported 711.2 l/m² at Forna over the whole storm.

AEMET’s own station at Pego later reported 633.8 l/m² for the episode, with a maximum of 118.6 l/m² in one hour and 374.0 l/m² in four hours. AEMET said this was the highest 24-hour total at Pego in records going back to the mid-20th century, nearly doubling the previous high of 371.5 l/m² on 3 November 1987.

Incidents

By 16:00 on Monday the regional emergency centre had handled 1,572 incidents since 13:57 on Saturday: 1,083 in Valencia province, 475 in Alicante and 14 in Castellón. The municipalities with the most were Oliva (664), Xàbia (139), Gandia (100), Dénia (82) and Pego (74). Most involved flooding, rescues, stranded people and vehicles, and road damage.

Official safety advice

Even where confinement has been lifted, 112’s advice remains: avoid unnecessary travel; do not cross flooded areas; keep away from rivers, ravines, seafronts and the coast; go up to higher floors if water enters your home; do not go down to basements or garages; and pay special attention to vulnerable people.
